Kookie Kitchen
It all started with a Facebook post. Actually, it started way back on Pinterest, where I was mining for food porn. There it was, a chocolate chip cookie dough sandwich. Beautiful, yet at the same time, terrifying. How could somebody be so gluttonous? Tastebuds swirling with desire quickly got me over any residual shame and I posted the picture of the cookie dough sandwich on Strictly Cookies’ Facebook page, asking the founder, my dear friend, Lexie Comstock if she could give it a whirl. She was game to take on the sugary challenge, even if it was a little, well, kookie (kooky…see what we did there?). Lexie invited me into her kitchen to make the monster, and there we have it my friends, the Kookie Kitchen. Part one in an epic series of what wonderfully weird ways Strictly Cookies can manhandle cookie dough into delicious gustatory submission.
Step 1: Strictly Cookies fans are used to plump cookies, but Lexie had to flatten her normally rotund choco-chip cookies into these still delicious discs for ultimate sandwich eating. The filler dough is sugar and the Unifier, a hybrid between brownie and chocolate cookie.
Hold onto your hats folks. Step 2: gently pat the dough onto the cookie. Are you still with me?
Step 3: give the cookie sandwich a few moments to work the camera. Style side note: isn’t Lexie’s manicure fabulous? She goes to the little salon on Changle Lu, just west of Changshu Lu. Manis are about RMB60 there.
Step 4: eat! Don’t worry, there aren’t any raw eggs in the dough. No sweat. Mei wenti. At this stage it’s easy to get carried away and gobble it down, but I suggest taking it slow because you are essentially eating three decadently dense cookies at once.
Step 5: ogle
As I got to pick Lexie’s brain about the art of baking, she wanted to learn more about Shanghai Style File, and my thoughts on how cookies and fashion come together. Watch the video interview on Strictly’s blog here! SSF is on FILM yall.
