Content 目录 SS13 at Shanghai Fashion Week

Yesterday I went to see three shows at Shanghai Fashion Week, but the Content show was by far and away the best presentation. I went with my friend Hart of Shanghai Style File backstage before the show to conduct a short interview with the designer Liao Xiao Ling where she told us that the inspiration for the collection was love and LSD. Yes, you read that correctly, LSD. Because love is like a drug, as is fashion, and sometimes it just makes people crazy! So I was expecting something psychedelic and maybe a bit psychotic, and that’s what we got with the opening video by visual artist Boo… Take a look here and you’ll know what I mean:

I loved the hanging pieces of transparent fabric placed along the runway… They were printed with love letters in Chinese (the same fabric used for a lot of the pieces), and they acted as a screen for projections throughout the show. Although the introduction was jarring (in a good way), the presentation itself made me fall in love with Content all over again. It was an interesting and thoughtful presentation, which was such a treat because a lot of the shows thus far have been relatively boring and repetitive. I think the collection was incredibly well-received given the roaring applause at the end of the show, but you can take a look and decide for yourself what you think of the collection:
