“Capital M is proud to be the pop-up lounge for Beijing Design Week 2012, with happenings throughout [including] an installation designed by Jeff Shi of Dragonfly Design Center; Luma Lu’s indie film competition; panel discussions, impromptu talks, exchanges, drinking, eating and general conversing. Our made-for-BJDW pop-up menu (priced for struggling designers too!) will feature Taittinger champagne served in jewel-toned Baccarat Vega glasses (a steal at 88RMB), the BJDW Martini – blue of course – and cocktails inspired by bamboo”.

1) The Importance of Poetic, Functional, Psychological, Scientific Interiors with Ab Rogers; 5pm, 29 Sept
Preeminent London designer Ab Rogers explores how interior design shapes interaction with space, using the work of Ab Rogers Design clients as reference: Comme De Garcons, Tate Modern, Fat Duck (Heston Blumenthal), Google, The Science Museum, Selfridges, Conde Nast, PriceWaterhouseCooper and more.
2) Luxury and Craft; 5pm, 30 Sept
In today’s mass-market economy, the intersection of luxury and craft has become increasingly important for the survival of both industries. This roundtable discussion will question the value of contemporary craft within the present-day landscape of branding and luxury, whilst also exploring how an increased demand for products embodying authenticity, quality and craftsmanship is redefining our understanding and value of luxury itself. Speakers on this panel include Jiang Qiong’er, CEO and Artistic Director of the Shang Xia brand, Gijs Bakker, jewellery designer and founder of Droog, and Chris Connors, Global Brand Director for Fornasetti.
3) Making A Business of Design; 3-6pm, 3 Oct
An afternoon of discussions (split into 2 sessions) that focus on how to turn design ideas into a viable business. Speakers include David Tanguy, Design by Praline; Naihan Li, Chinese furniture designer; Sara Yun, Chinese fashion designer; Paloma Sanchez, gemologist and jewellery designer; Machtelt Schelling, owner of jewellery and ceramic design gallery, UBI; Natasia Guo, co-founder of online design store, nuandao.com; and Denise Huang, founder and designer of Suzhou Cobblers.
